Sold-Out Success for Minehead Running Club’s Race the Tide-Chase the Train

Minehead Running Club’s sold-out multi-terrain race, Race the Tide-Chase the Train, brought big seaside energy to the coast on 31 May, attracting runners from across the country for a thrilling 7.5-mile challenge.

The event delivered everything promised and more, with runners taking on sand, pebbles, rocks, rivers, coast path, dunes and shingle, all before a fast finish back along the beach. With the tide retreating just in time, competitors picked their own lines across more than three miles of beach, while some were even treated to the sight of the steam train running alongside them.

There were plenty of rewards waiting at the finish too, with every runner receiving a free T-shirt, medal, ice cream and a generous helping of seaside vibes.

At the sharp end of the race, Michael Sandiford stormed home to set the first course record in an impressive 47m 33s. Minehead Running Club’s own James Bacon followed strongly in 52m 50s.

The women’s race was just as exciting, with Kirstie Booth of Taunton AC taking first female in a superb 56m, narrowly holding off Sharon Hutchings of Dorset Doddlers, who crossed the line in 56m 24s.

Supporters lined the route and cheered runners all the way to the finish, where recovery ice creams proved just as popular as the racing itself.

We must also say a HUGE thank you to our two sponsors, both Hoburne Blue Anchor holiday park and Torre Cider Farm.  Without them, our event would not have been possible.

After an incredible response and so many kind comments from runners, supporters and volunteers, the question is: will Race the Tide-Chase the Train return?

You bet it will.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a brilliant success.
