Race round-up

Minehead Running Club members have been flying the flag in style, with standout performances across a string of big races.

A major highlight was the return of the Taunton Half Marathon for its 40th edition, attracting a huge 2,000 entries. Martin stormed to 1st in the V60 category in a brilliant 1:26:01, with Kevin close behind in 3rd. Tanya also turned heads, taking 1st FV35 in a rapid 1:33:28. A cracking day for Team MRC.

Then came The Grizzly, and Kevin proved once again he is made of stern stuff, finishing 2nd MV65 in an outstanding 3:14:32. No small feat on a brutal near-20-mile course packed with pebble beaches, cliff paths, trails, bogs, hills and even a river crossing. Classic Grizzly, tough, wild and not for the faint-hearted.

Still not done, the club took on The Humdinger Half on 22 March, where Tanya was once again in a class of her own, crossing the line as 1st woman in 1:42:48. Kevin added another category win with 1st MV60 in 1:48:37, while Richard Maw claimed 1st MV70 in 2:30:23.

The Hurtle, the 6.5 mile race, saw Laura come 2nd in the Women’s category in 0:50:04.  Simply superb.

Rounding off the racing news was the demanding Feighan Fury 10-mile multi-terrain race, where MRC runners delivered more fantastic results. Jackie took 2nd FV50 in 1:59:59, Manda was 2nd FV60 in a superb 1:35:06, and Richard was back on the podium with 2nd MV70 in 1:52:55. A brilliant effort all round, and every one of them a hero in club colours.

The club’s popular Monday evening Adventure Trail Run is heading out on tour.

For the next few weeks, runners will be taking on the 51 mile Coleridge Way in a series of Monday evening outings, ticking off consecutive bite-sized sections each week of around 6 miles. It all starts on 13 April, with full details coming soon.
